Wilmington Wants State To Waive Fine For Sewage Spill

Posted Updated

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Leaders in Wilmington want the state to waive or reduce a fine for a sewage spill.

An incident in July dumped about 3 million gallons of sewage into Hewletts Creek. The state fined the city $51,000.

City officials said the penalty would cut into money set aside for upgrades to the city's wastewater collection system.
