Just during the second week of the campaign, which was held between Aug. 22-28, law enforcement officers held more than 2,700 "Booze It & Lose It" checkpoints across the state.
The checkpoints led to arrests of more than 1,100 impaired drivers and the capture of 24 fugitives wanted on charges ranging from probation violations to vehicle larceny. Officers also issued more than 30,000 citations for traffic violations and criminal violations.
The "Across the State Battle Against DWI" campaign is part of an effort spearheaded by the Governor's Highway Safety Program to crack drown on impaired drivers. Officers arrested nearly 800 people for driving while impaired during the first week of the campaign, which began in mid August.
The campaign continued through Labor Day weekend.
The number of arrests made and citations issued over Labor Day weekend has not been released yet.
