DURHAM, N.C. — Many critics have described Durham School Board meetings as contentious and out-of-control. Now, the board has adopted new procedures it hopes will keep things in order.
The board voted 5-1 Thursday to approve the new procedures that dictate how many citizens can address the board and how long they can speak. Under the new rules, shouting, screaming and swearing would be forbidden during meetings.
The new rules were immediately put to the test as officers had to remove a resident from the meeting.
