A local man is pleading for the public's help in finding the person responsible for his son's hit-and-run death in a parking lot.

David L. Lynd, 18, of 1443 Old Stead Drive, was hit shortly after 5:30 p.m. Thursday by a dark-colored sport utility vehicle in the Westwood Shopping Center parking lot at the corner of McPherson and Morganton roads, police said.

Paul Lynd said Friday he is convinced his son was a robbery victim.

David Lynd's wallet was missing, and he had just been paid.

"It was his first paycheck from Staples," said Paul Lynd.

"He was a loving person. He trusted everyone he came across," Paul Lynd said. The son had big plans, including becoming a graphic designer. "He dreamed of going to college and I think ultimately his goal was to work at Disney World," his father said.

David Lynd had just returned from a six -month work program at Disney and started the job at Staples.

Police say no one has admitted seeing what happened, but a witness did see a dark-colored SUV leaving the scene. Investigators believe the driver of the SUV is responsible for killing the 18-year-old.

"He was riding in an SUV and was either pushed or fell out of the SUV," Paul Lynd believes. "The SUV ran over him and then took off at a fast pace.".

Lynd had dropped his son off at work that morning. The last thing they talked about was faith.

"He seemed to be following away from the faith. I explained to him that just because you don't see God doesn't mean that He's not there," Lynd said.

If you have any information, you are asked to call the Fayetteville Police Department at 910-433-1036 or Crimestoppers at 910-483-8477.
