GARNER, N.C. — Garner police are testing a new crime-fighting machine.
Police say the Segway is a great conversation piece. You lean forward and you go forward. Lean backward, you go backward.
Officers say they can patrol parking lots and shopping centers faster than on foot.
The Segway costs about $5,000. It is on loan to Garner while the department decides whether to buy one.
Segways are also part of the security force at Duke University.
