FORT BRAGG, N.C. — Cumberland County deputies have arrested a man and have charged him the attempted murder of his former spouse, a Fort Bragg soldier.

Paul Brian Bauermeister, 35, of Fayetteville, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Authorities said Paul Brian Bauermeister attacked his former spouse, 29-year old Takisha Bauermeister, after she signed her children in to a day-care center on Cliffdale Road at around 5:40 a.m.

Takisha Bauermeister told investigators she was leaving the day-care center parking lot when a man hiding in the back seat of her vehicle sat up and demanded money. Bauermeister said she recognized the voice as that of her ex-husband and she began to laugh.

Paul Brian Bauermeister reached around the back seat and slashed the victim on the left side of her face with a sharp object. Bauermeister jumped from her vehicle and ran back to the day-care center. The suspect ran from the scene and was later taken in to custody on Fort Bragg by authorities.

Paul Brian Bauermeister is being held in the Cumberland County Jail without bond. He will make his first court appearance Friday.
