Crews Work To Remove Tainted Soil In Downtown Raleigh

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Work is under way to clean up a dirty part of Raleigh's past.

Progress Energy crews are working to remove tainted soil at an old manufactured gas plant. The site is near the new convention center.

During the cleanup, trucks will carry away the old dirt and replace it with new soil.

If you are near the site, you may notice a tar smell. Health officials say it does not pose a danger to people.
