Fort Bragg Soldier Charged With Sex Crimes Involving A Girl

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County sheriff's deputies have charged a Fort Bragg soldier with sex crimes involving a girl who was a family friend.

Eric Paul Jones, 30, of 1509 Obannon Drive in Raeford, was arrested on the military installation shortly after 1 p.m. on Friday. Members of the Army's Criminal Investigation Division assisted deputies in the arrest.

Jones, who is a sergeant with a paygrade of E-6, is assigned to Fort Bragg's 82nd Airborne Aviation Division. He is charged with two counts of taking indecent liberties and two counts of statutory sex offense against a person under the age of 15.

The offenses allegedly occurred on March 13 in the victim's home. It was reported by the girl's father on June 19, 2005. Jones reportedly was a friend of the family prior to the alleged crimes.

Jones is in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond. He will make a first court appearance Monday, July 18, 2005, at 9 a.m. in District Court.
