Police: Raleigh Woman Fends Off Would-Be Attacker

RALEIGH, N.C. — Authorities say a Raleigh woman woke up to find an intruder standing over her bed.

Detectives say Jonathan Bryant tried to rape the woman at University Apartments, but she managed to fight him off.

"There was a struggle. The woman managed to get free, get outside of her house and the suspect fled," said Jim Sughrue, of the Raleigh Police Department.

Police identified the suspect as Jonathan Bryant. He was arrested after investigators linked him to the woman's bedroom.

Authorities said Bryant lives a few doors down from the victim, but he did not know her.

Police said Bryant broke in through the woman's sliding glass door. Detectives are not saying if she left it unlocked, but they are urging people to lock all doors, especially in the summertime.
