Patron Sends Check To Owner Of Clinton Restaurant Destroyed By Fire

Posted Updated

CLINTON, N.C. — It is just $6, but it is worth a lot more to a man who lost his business.

Fire gutted Johnny Kaleel's restaurant in downtown Clinton in early June.

When it started, about three dozen patrons left their lunches on the table to escape the flames.

One sent Kaleel a check to pay for the unfinished meal.

Kaleel said he has also received letters and phone calls urging him to re-open.

Kaleel does plan to rebuild, but is not sure how long it will take.

The fire's cause still has not been determined.
