ZEBULON, N.C. — An 81-year-old woman was killed Monday afternoon in a fatal accident, the Zebulon Police Department said Monday.

Investigators said Lottie Pulley Alford, 81, of Gannon Avenue was traveling north on North Arendell Avenue at about 3:45 p.m. when she collided with a tractor-trailer just north of Highway 64.

Alford was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver, Charles Penick, 48, of Nathalie, Va., was not injured.

Police said Alford failed to stop at a red light and struck the driver's side door of the truck that was turning onto northbound North Arendell Avenue.

Zebulon Chief of Police Timothy Hayworth said there would be no charges filed while the accident remains under investigation.
