Chapel Hill Police Seek Assault Suspect

Posted Updated

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Chapel Hill police are looking for a man connected with an assault on a 22-year-old Chapel Hill man that happened in late May.

In the early hours of May 27, Chapel Hill police said the suspect assaulted the victim in a parking lot on Church Street between West Franklin Street and West Rosemary Street.

The victim and a companion were walking through the parking lot when they walked past two men holding metal poles, according to police. One of the men hit the victim with a pole, causing him to fall to the ground, and then hit the victim in head, arm and hand, police said.

Police said the victim described the suspect as a white male, 6 feet tall, and 180 to 190 pounds with an athletic build. He had short light brown hair and some facial hair and a stud earring in one ear. He was wearing a light colored shirt and blue jeans.

Witnesses reported that the two men left in a newer model, red Ford 150 pickup truck with a license plate where the first two letters may be "DA," police said. There was also some wording across the back window of the truck cab.
