FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his young stepson, authorities said.
According to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department, Travis Skimmiehorn, 22, of Rosehill Road, called 911 and told dispatchers the 18-month-old boy fell from a chair. An investigation by the state's medical examiner showed the child's injuries did not match Skimmiehorn's story.
Skimmiehorn is in the Cumberland County Detention Center under $100,000 bail.
