The school system fired Mike Wade, a transportation operation manager, after WRAL asked questions about him. Sources tell WRAL that Wade is the boyfriend of Carol Finch, one of five transportation employees who already lost their jobs since the investigation began in August.
Wade started with the school system 17 years ago in 1988.
The school system alleges the former employees worked with two former managers from an auto parts company, Barnes Motor & Parts, to siphon millions of dollars from the school system over a period of years.
The school system would not discuss the specifics of Wade's termination. Instead, it issued a statement saying, "beyond Mike Wade, the school system continues to actively investigate transportation/vendor issues."
