DURHAM, N.C. — Durham Academy is refusing to give Adam Sapikowski's attendance records to police.

The 16-year-old junior is accused of killing his parents, James and Alison Sapikowski. The couple was found dead at their home.

The school's attorney told WRAL the school will release the records if an appointed guardian gives permission or it receives a court order to do so.

Police say Sapikowski admitted shooting his parents inside their home weeks before their bodies were found.

The department requested the school records last week to help them piece together a timeline between the murders and Sapikowski's arrest.

School officials say they are prevented by the Federal Family Right to Privacy Act from turning over school records without a court order, or the permission of a legal guardian.
