Durham Police Arrest Man Accused Of Ruining Bride's Wedding Cruise

DURHAM, N.C. — Thanks to a Crimestoppers tip, Durham police have arrested a man they believe scammed a bride-to-be on the eve of her wedding cruise.

Erika Lunsford and 18 family members and friends were supposed to celebrate her wedding on a cruise ship. Lunsford said Beverly Perry promised to provide a charter bus to Miami. After she paid more than $2,000, the bus did not show.

"How could he do this to me, you know? That's really all that I was thinking the whole time," Lunsford said.

Most of the guests -- including the bride and groom -- were able to buy emergency plane tickets to Miami. Others could not and lost their trip deposits.

When Lunsford got home, she learned Perry had a criminal history dating back to the 1970s.

"I really worked hard. This was the first trip I'd ever planned. It was my wedding. There's no way he can understand how much he put me through," she said.

Perry was arrested Wednesday morning on Chapel Hill Road following a tip to Crimestoppers.
