RALEIGH, N.C. — New numbers show North Carolina's unemployment rate rising slightly.
The Employment Security Commission reported a rate of 5.3 percent for the month of April, which is up a tenth of a point compared to March.
The national average is 5.2 percent.
It's the first time in a year the state's unemployment rate is higher than national figure.
