FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County deputies have arrested and charged the man they believe stabbed another man to death during a fight early Sunday morning in Fayetteville.
Cumberland County Sheriff Earl "Moose" Butler said 27-year-old Kevin Dwight Smith of Bridgeport, Conn., has been charged with voluntary manslaughter for the death of 29-year-old Charles Wayne Burr, of Fayetteville.
Investigators believe Burr and Smith began arguing inside an apartment on East Netherlands Drive, but they do not yet know the motive for Burr's death.
Burr died from a stab wound to the neck.
Smith is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $50,000 bond.
