Man In Custody After Leading Cumberland Authorities On Chase

RALEIGH, N.C. — Cumberland County sheriff's deputies arrested a Hope Mills man after leading them on a high-speed chase.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, Robert Reed, 21, lost control of his vehicle and crashed on Church Street. Reed was thrown from the vehicle and it rolled on top of him.

Reed was able to get up and began to run from deputies. Investigators said he doubled back and stole a Sheriff's vehicle. He was later captured and taken in to custody near Hope Mills Middle School. He was transported by ambulance to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Reed faces a number of charges, including larceny of a motor vehicle, felony speeding to elude arrest and driving while impaired.
