Former Johnston County Teacher Goes To Court To Get Job Back

Posted Updated

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — A former high school teacher fired for a class experiment was in court Monday to try to get his job back.

The school board fired Smithfield Selma High School teacher Jeff Ferguson last year when some students got sick during an experiment. Ferguson challenged them to drink a gallon of milk in an hour to show what happens when the body cannot metabolize acids.

Ferguson claims the principal used the experiment to get rid of him for personal reasons. Attorneys for the school board said the board's evidence is final under state law.

In the meantime, Ferguson is working part-time for his lawyer. The judge is expected to rule on the case next week. .
