Families mourn two NC friends who died in Colorado plane crash

Two Orange County men who shared a love of flying were killed last week when their plane crashed in Colorado.

Now, their families say they’re learning to cope with the loss.

“We get a lot of strength just by living his example,” said Audrey Dalton Reichardt, whose father, Bruce Dalton, died in the crash.

Dalton, a retired doctor, and his friend, Steve Huber, a mortgage consultant, were aboard Dalton's small Mooney 201 plane when it crashed in the Rocky Mountains. The men were on their way from Person County to an air show in Nevada.

No one knows what caused the crash, which is under investigation.

“It has changed me from wife to widow with no warning,” said Sue Huber.

Douglas Quick, who was Steve Huber’s boss, also feels the loss. He said Huber wasn’t just an employee – he was a friend.

“Every morning, we’d have a cup of coffee right here at my desk and talk about our family, talk about our kids,” he said.

Both men left behind wives, children and grandchildren. Right now, the families are remembering the good times and the love they shared.

“There was no time taken for granted with my father,” Reichardt said.
