<b>HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C.</b> — A trusted town leader is charged with embezzling money in Holly Springs.

Investigators say the town's former athletic director, David Smith, overbilled the town for umpire services at local games.

Police say Smith then pocketed the money.

Smith resigned from his position on Monday. More charges are pending.
