Coroner Not At Fault In Case Of Man Wrongly Pronounced Dead

A Franklin County Medical Examiner apparently did nothing wrong in the case of a man mistakenly pronounced dead.

The state's Chief Medical Examiner says the medical examiner's role is to investigate the cause of death, not determine death.

A car hit Larry Donnell Green last Monday night while he was walking along Highway 401. A county report said first responders, who have since been fired, ignored signs of life at the scene.

The medical examiner called emergency workers back to the morgue to pick up Green after he had been untreated for more than two hours.

Green remains in critical condition at Duke Hospital.
