ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount may finally get a replacement for a controversial statue of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

A statue committee recently voted unanimously to hire a new artist to replace the old one. Critics say the old sculpture of King does not look anything like him.

The city paid an artist nearly $60,000 to sculpt it.

The new statue is expected to cost more than twice the original. The City Council votes on the issue in February.
