State Superintendent Candidate Asks Legislature To Decide Winner

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Democratic candidate for state superintendent of schools wants lawmakers to declare her the winner.

June Atkinson formally asked the General Assembly to intervene in the race, which is still undecided from last November.

Atkinson leads Republican Bill Fletcher by 8,500 votes.

Last week, Fletcher asked the state Supreme Court to toss out 11,000 out-of-precinct votes.

The court has yet to issue an opinion.
