High School Students Injured In Clayton Wreck

CLAYTON, N.C. — Officials said charges are pending in an accident that sent two Clayton High School students to the hospital Monday afternoon.

The state Highway Patrol said the car was traveling east on Glen Laurel Road at about 2:45 p.m. when it ran off the road, hit a utility pole and flipped four times.

The driver, Matthew Blackwell, 18, was airlifted to University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill, where he is listed in serious condition.

Blackwell's 15-year-old passenger was treated and released from WakeMed.
