print friendly

A 72-year-old man is in the hospital after a 12,000-ton train slammed into his van.

The accident at 3 p.m. Friday happened on the tracks at Corcoran Street in Durham.

Witnesses say Charlie Stone drove a 2000 Ford Windstar under one crossing arm and got trapped by the crossing arm on the other side.

The freight train struck the front passenger area of the vehicle. Stone was the only person in the car.

Stone's condition has not been released. The accident is still under investigation.
