ROWLAND, N.C. — One man was killed and several students suffered minor injuries following a head-on collision between a vehicle and a school bus in Robeson County Thursday morning.

The wreck happened on Highway 130, east of Rowland, about two miles from the South Carolina border.

The driver of the vehicle was killed. Officials said it appeared the man came around a bend, crossed the center line and hit the school bus.

Twenty-nine students headed to South Robeson High School were on the bus.

Two students and the school bus driver were transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries and released. Eleven other students were taken to a hospital by their parents as a precaution.

The remaining students boarded another bus and were taken to school.
