Another Girlfriend Testifies In Former State Trooper's Trial

ROXBORO, N.C. — There was another twist in the case of the former state trooper accused of plotting to kill his wife.

Bobby Regan is accused of plotting with his alleged girlfriend Linda Lee to kill his wife, Danielle. On Monday, Brandy Oakley, who was dating the former state trooper at the time of the shooting and is his current girlfriend, took the stand, tellling jurors about his relationship with Lee. Oakley claimed Lee had stalked the former state trooper and shot Danielle Regan.

In June 2003, Danielle Regan was shot in the chest after getting out of the bathroom shower. Prosecutors say the former state trooper tried to kill her for insurance money and the couple's home.

Prosecutors believe the gun used to try to kill Regan was brought by Lee. Eric Hicks, an agent for the State Bureau of Investigation, said the gun was a Valentine's Day gift to Regan. He also said Lee loaned Regan money for his divorce.

Defense attorneys believe Lee acted alone in the shooting. Last week, Lee told attorneys that she shot her ex-husband in 1977 in Texas for allegedly molesting her daughter.

On Friday, Lee told jurors that Bobby Regan got her drunk, drugged her and brought her to his house on the night of the shooting. A SBI toxicology expert testified that Lee's blood did have evidence of having some sort of drug present in her system, but not enough that she can make a positive identification.

Lee will be tried on attempted murder charges at a later date.

Prosecutors believe they will be able to wrap up their side of the case Tuesday.
