SANFORD, N.C. — A jury found a former escapee from the Lee County jail not guilty of first-degree murder on Thursday.
Sammy Hart was accused of gunning down Jamie Smith in January 2003.
Hart was one of five men who broke out of the jail in February.
He remains in jail awaiting trial on charges stemming from the jail break and other charges not related to the murder case.
