High School Stabbing Suspect Pleads To Lesser Charge

RALEIGH, N.C. — Derrick Rashad Daniels pleaded guilty Friday to a misdemeanor assault charge in the stabbing case of a fellow classmate.

Daniels, 16, had faced a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon for stabbing a student in an off-campus fight near Athens Drive High School on Sept. 30.

The victim, Paul Thomas Foster, 18, was stabbed in the abdomen and recovered from his injuries.

Daniels received a 60-day suspended sentence and probation.
