DURHAM, N.C. — A prize homing bird that strayed off course is back home.
More than a week ago, a pigeon wound up in rural Durham County. The bird had taken off from northern Virginia in a race to Pennsylvania, but it somehow got lost.
Wildlife specialist Linda Cook fed and nursed the bird back to good health. She tracked down his owner through the bird's ID bands.
Cook later bought the pigeon a one-way ticket home to Allentown, Pa.
