DURHAM COUNTY, N.C. — All lanes of eastbound Interstate I-40 were reopened around 8 a.m Wednesday after a tractor trailer-fire earlier in the morning shut down both eastbound lanes.
The fire, which started in the truck's brakes, caused both eastbound lanes of the interstate near N.C. 55 to be shut down for more than an hour.
The off-ramp from eastbound I-40 to N.C. 55 remained closed at 8:15 a.m. after crews removed the truck from the highway.
No one was injured in the fire, which started around 4:50 a.m. Wednesday. The fire from the brakes on the truck spread to insulation on the trailer of the truck.
