Homecoming Football Game Cancelled Due To Threat Of Violence

Wayne County public schools' officials said they have learned that two groups have threatened violence against each other at the football field. Officials say both groups do not have any affiliation with the two schools.

"The threats are not against Goldsboro High School, but it is the threat of choosing this arena in order to carry out whatever they were wishing to carry out," said Patricia Burden, principal of Goldsboro High School.

A makeup game has been scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Goldsboro High School. No spectators will be allowed at the game.

The announcement of homecoming queen was announced in the school auditorium Friday night. Parents and participants were the only ones allowed to attend.

Almost two years ago, a man was shot during a

football

game between Goldsboro High School and Kinston High School. Neither the victim nor the shooter was a student. However, the incident did force Goldsboro High to increase game-time security.
