Police Capture Man Accused of Trying to Run Over Deputy
Dunn, N.C. — A man accused of trying to run down a Harnett County deputy last week was arrested Tuesday near Dunn, authorities said.
Bobby Dean Burnett was found in a wooded area near Interstate 95 and N.C. Highway 55/U.S. Highway 421 at the edge of Dunn, authorities said. He is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, assault on a law enforcement officer, assault on a government officer and resisting an officer and is being held in the Harnett County Detention Center on a $1.5 million bond.
Detective Mark Bordeaux of the Harnett County Sheriff's Office pulled over a car over Friday afternoon near Erwin to serve warrants for breaking and entering and larceny, authorities said. The driver tried to run Bordeaux over, and the deputy fired several shots at the car as he jumped out of the way, authorities said.
Bordeaux was treated at Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital for shoulder and chest injuries.
Mary Lucinda Kieffer, 44, of Erwin, was charged Monday with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill assault with a deadly weapon on a government officer and assault on a law enforcement officer. Authorities said Kieffer, who is being held in the Harnett County Detention Center on a $350,000 bond, was a passenger in the car.
