Posted Updated

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A bus driver who hit and killed an 8-year-old boy was not to blame for the accident. That is the word from Burlington police, who said the driver never saw the child.

The third-grader was riding his bike outside his elementary school Friday when the bus hit him. Police said a preliminary investigation shows the driver was not at fault.

Investigators plan to issue a final report next week.

According to the Burlington Police Department, the accident happened shortly before 3 p.m. Friday at Homer Andrews Elementary School on Buckingham Road.
