PITTSBORO, N.C. — The Chatham County Board of Elections recommended Monday that the State Board of Elections would consider a new election as to a water bond referendum.
Silk Hope Elementary School is the county's only school still on well water, and the well is running dry.
Last month, voters rejected a $9 million bond to connect the town to the county's water supply, but some voters are protesting saying they were never offered a ballot to vote on it.
The State Board of Elections will consider the request in the near future. The State Board of Elections is the only entity authorized by North Carolina law to order new elections and to set the date for the new election. If they set a new election, they will set a date for the new election at that time.
