WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A Wake Forest police detective, caught up in the middle of an Afghan prison abuse case, is on one-month unpaid leave.
Detective Bonnie Heart's boyfriend is David Passaro, a CIA contractor charged with assaulting a prisoner in Afghanistan.
Heart has already testified in connection with the Passaro case.
A Wake Forest commissioner said the time off will help Heart get through a difficult time.
