DURHAM, N.C. — Two women were arrested Thursday after leading authorities on a chase that began in Franklin County and reached speeds surpassing 90 miles per hour.

Shortly before noon, a 911 call went out about a shoplifting incident at the Food Lion on U.S. Highway 1 in Franklinton. Franklinton police pulled over a car belonging to the suspects at a convenience store, but the car later sped away.

The chase reportedly went through Granville County and Wake County, before it ended in the area of Holloway Street and Lynn Road in Durham. A Highway Patrol officer used stop sticks to blow out three of the vehicle's tires.

Authorities arrested Karen Currie, 32, and Kayyisa Green, 28. No one was injured in the chase.

The two women are also being investigated by the Raleigh Police Department for a similar shoplifting incident at a Harris Teeter in Raleigh.
