R.J. Reynolds Gets Tax Break

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — State lawmakers voted to give R.J. Reynolds a break Thursday.

The state House approved an amendment allowing the tobacco maker to move at least 500 jobs to Winston-Salem by the end of the year.

The move is part of RJR's merger with Brown and Williamson Tobacco.

RJR still would get $48 million in tax breaks. The original incentive package called for the tax credits to start next year.
