Durham Citizens Group Wants Conner To Resign

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — The leaders of a Durham citizens group said they have collected thousands of signatures from people who want an independent audit of city operations and also want the city manager to resign.

Concerned Citizens for Accountable Government says it has collected 7,000 signatures from Durham residents who support its cause.

The group will march from First Baptist Church and to City Hall Monday evening, where they will present the signatures to council members.

City Manager Marcia Conner has been under scrutiny by the City Council for months because of questionable decisions in the past.

She has received monthly reviews since November 2002 after she came under fire for her handling of the police chief search and signing off on a questionable contract.

In addition to the planned rally, the City Council is also expected to vote on the $279 million budget proposal.
