RALEIGH, N.C. — Authorities say a rape and kidnapping suspect shot in the head by officers died from a blood clot in his lungs, not the gunshot wound.

Charles Avery Kearney died Saturday, more than two weeks after he was shot by U.S. marshals and Wake Forest police officers.

Kearney had allegedly raped and kidnapped women in Raleigh and Rocky Mount.
