RAEFORD, N.C. — Hoke County investigators are moving forward in a major cock-fighting case. They have summoned 75 people to court.

According to detectives, the suspects spent a Sunday morning watching roosters fight to the death. Detectives said many of the suspects brought children and even sold refreshments.

Investigators found more than a dozen birds dead or dying.

The fights reportedly were held in pits behind the home of Kenneth Scribner, 46. Scribner has been charged with promoting and conducting the fights.

The cases are scheduled to be held Aug. 25 in District Court.
