Ronald Reagan Remembered In Edenton

Posted Updated

EDENTON, N.C. — President Ronald Reagan's legacy holds special meaning for one Raleigh woman.

In 1986, the White House chose Karen Neal's Holmes High School class in Edenton to visit the president. The late president delivered their commencement address in the Rose Garden.

"He talked about citizenship and how we all need to strive and be a good citizen," she said.

Neal said she understands why people called Reagan the Great Communicator because he spoke to them on their level.

The seniors gave the president a T-shirt and a teapot symbolic of Edenton's early American history. The teapot is currently on display in the high school.
