Man Driving Stolen Vehicle Leads Durham Deputies On High-Speed Chase

The car was a blue Subaru sedan that had been reported stolen on May 31. It had tags from a 1998 GMC Jimmy, which is what attracted deputies to it.

The deputies tried to stop the vehicle on Angier Avenue, between Pleasant Drive and Wrenn Road, just before noon. The driver, Dwayne Toomer, led deputies through eastern Durham County onto Highway 70 on a chase that started just before noon.

Investigators said Toomer did not even let a dead-end stop him -- He crashed through a fence and landed in a pond.

Toomer, 38, faces several charges, including felony speeding to elude and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Another person, Willie Carr, 38, was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and also was served with a $56,000 child-support warrant.
