Survey Crew Finds Human Remains Along Road

Cumberland County authorities are trying to determine the identity of a decomposed body found Monday afternoon near the Hoke County line.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County authorities are trying to determine the identity of a decomposed body found Monday afternoon near the Hoke County line.

The remains were discovered by a survey crew working in the 8300 block of Camden Road, authorities said. The road is part of the Mariner's Point subdivision, which is under construction, authorities said.

The remains will be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death and a possible identification.

The victim, who appears to be a female, was wearing a silver thumb ring and a bracelet on her right wrist. She was not wearing clothes at the time she was found.

Anyone with information about the person’s identity is asked to call the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office at 910-323-1500.
