Posted December 19, 2006

A Franklinton man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly fired a weapon at passing vehicles in Wake Forest.

Brian Allen Jaeger, 18, is charged with one count of carrying a concealed weapon and one count of going armed to the terror of the public.

Wake Forest police said Jaeger was lying in the median of U.S. Route 1 near Jenkins Road alongside a paintball rifle. He was also in possession of an air soft handgun and a concealed butterfly knife, according to authorities.

Jaeger was in the Wake County Detention Center Tuesday afternoon under $2,000 secured bond.

His first court appearance is set for Jan. 26.

I was expecting the report to reveal the young man was shooting a firearm at passing cars. Talk about a distorted headline...

  • OldWolf Dec 20, 2006

Yes, but.....we are talking about paintballs here.

Spare the rod and spoil the child. Obviously this kid has no fear of the consequences of his actions no matter how stupid they were. Maybe a severe butt kicking will do in place of sending him through the legal system for a slap on the wrist at the worse. Find his parents and question them about his past and ask them why he did it.

When I read a headline like "Man Accused of Shooting at Passing Vehicles," I kind of expect to read about a situation that had the potential to be instantly lethal to motorists. Granted pant might get on somebody's windshield leading to a fatal crash, but there is a significant difference between someone shooting at cars with a paintball gun verses a real rifle. I think this is a fine example of how the media shapes our worldviews in ways that are not in touch with reality. Most people reading that headline, without reading the story, will assume that people were being shot at with real bullets, which, upon reading the story, proved not to be the case. This leads to inaccurate perceptions of where the real dangers to our society lie. Sleep deprived drivers are thousands of times more dangerous to the public that some lone paintball gunman. But anyone who just glanced at today's headlines might not be aware of that.

hey highrisk - Why dont we all go to bootcamp so we can all learn the value of life? Bootcamps are ideal for teaching morals and happiness. Also, we would all look nice with the same haircuts and bibles.

What is happening to todays youth? It would appear that this Punk has NO moral values. Community service is letting him off easy. Stick him in some sort of Military Boot Camp and let him learn the value of respect, honor and life.

Shooting at cars with a paintball gun? Had and air soft (toy) gun and a butterfly knife? He can't even find real weapons and he is taking on 2000+ pound vehicles.

fvb1956 I understand where you are coming from, but, he's not fit to serve along side of our brave men and women in the military. This guy is a moron.

Sounds like he has too much time on his hands-why was he not in school? Make it easy on him-give him 1000 hrs of community service picking up trash if he wants to hang out on the highway instead of school.
