another one ended in Cumberland County.
Tuesday, Cumberland County school officials awarded Terry Sanford High School's top academic title to Ramsey Wehbe.
Wehbe, who had thought since December that he was sole valedictorian, learned last week that he actually shared the honor with Amit Gupta. Wehbe challenged that decision, noting that Gupta had a lower grade point average and did not deserve to be a valedictorian.
According to school system policy, the student with the highest GPA is named valedictorian. Gupta argued that more weight should have been given to a college class he took.
The school board settled the matter by ruling Tuesday that Gupta will graduate salutatorian.
The decision came after a report that Raleigh's Enloe High will not disqualify its valedictorian after he allegedly forged a letter from a teacher to Congressman David Price asking for a recommendation to the Naval Academy.
