Durham Police Investigate 3 Saturday Shootings, 1 Fatal

The first incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. in the parking lot of McDonald's restaurant on Morgan Street in downtown Durham. The victim, Montrellous Thorpe, 25, of Gray Avenue, was inside a vehicle when he was shot. Police were notified after a friend drove Thorpe to Thorpe's home, where Thorpe was pronounced dead.

The suspects were described as two young black males in their 20s with dreadlocks. They were in a dark green 2000-2001 Ford Ranger pickup truck. No charges have been filed, and no motive has been determined.

While police were investigating the homicide, a 32-year-old man was taken by a friend to Durham Regional Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound. The victim, who suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, told officers he was shot near the intersection of Liberty and Maple streets.

Officers then responded to a call at Green and Washington streets at 7:12 p.m. When they arrived, they found a 25-year-old man who had been shot in the chest, stomach and arm. He was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment. Witnesses said the victim was standing near the street when he was shot.
