Volunteers extend search for soldier

"We are not searchers," admitted Shannon Jacobson. She and others are just trying to help where investigators' trail has gone cold.

A group of military spouses spearheaded Saturday's search, which marked three weeks to the day since Pfc. Kelli Bordeaux, 23, was last seen at a bar on Ramsey Street. Since she left Froggy Bottoms just after midnight on April 14, Bordeaux's disappearance has captured nationwide attention, but left no clues.

"It's disturbing that someone like her that's serving our country is missing," said Thomas Holmes. A truck driver by trade, Holmes joined Saturday's search to help out any way possible.

Groups of people walked, rode on horseback and drove golf carts Saturday along railroad tracks that cross Interstate 295. Cadaver dogs sniffed through acres of thick brush.

As time goes by, the worries that Bordeaux will never be found grow. 

"We're gonna hold out hope, just like the family is, until we do find something and until there is a definite answer as to what happened," Jacobson said. "It's in everybody's mind that as time goes by the outlook is not good.

"If we do find her, it'll be closure for her family," she said.

Police have said up a special hotline – 910-433-1114 – for tips in the case, and Virginia-based security firm Black Ops Security Services & Consulting Inc. is offering an $8,000 reward for information leading to Bordeaux's discovery.
